In fact, I write and release nonfiction writing prompts every morning on Substack at “ Writing Prompts for Weird Times,” and I studied so much yoga I became certified to teach it not once but twice (two different types), so in a way, it would be super stupid not to DIY it.Īnyway, here are 30 recent, recent-ish, and upcoming writing prompts from over there. Instead, I’m DIY-ing this for the sheer pleasure of two things I enjoy. While I think a brand or two was always behind it, it’s since been turned into a big, branded, sponsored undertaking in which participants tag others and compete to win stuff and, well… no judgement, but that’s not my yogic thing. If felt good, it was fun, it got deep, it was meaningful, I connected with other writers and yogis and writer-yogis, and that was that. I’d read the prompt for the day, answer it with a yoga pose photo, write something about it in the caption, and post that sucker to Instagram. Basically, the challenge called on me and other participants to answer writing prompts with yoga poses. A few years back, and for a couple of years in a row, I participated in an Instagram yoga challenge that felt great to do after all, it was combining two things-yoga and writing-I happen to love very much.
